Summer Volleyball and BBQ
Our Volleyball Tournament Rules
Scoring:
- Rally Scoring, a point is scored no matter which team serves -- If the serving team wins a rally, they score a point and continues to serve. If the receiving team wins a rally, they score a point and they get to serve.
- Games are first to 15 and must be won by 2
Games & Playoffs:
- First 8 teams to sign up are in
- Single-Elimination
Contacts:
- Maximum of three hits per side
- Player may not hit the ball twice in succession (A block is not considered a hit)
- It is ALLOWED to play the ball off the net (except on a serve). It is a fault, if the ball contacts net or goes outside the antennas.
- The ball has to travel between the antennas (or the imagined extensions of them) when flying to the other side of the net.
- Players are NOT allowed to catch, hold, or throw the ball.
- Players are NOT allowed to hit or block the opponents serve.
- Attacking a ball over the net is illegal if it has yet to break the plane of the net. In other words the receiving player is only allowed to swing at the ball when it breaks the plane of the net.
In or Out?
- Ball is ruled IN, if any part of it hits the line
- Ball is ruled OUT, if the ball lands outside the boundary lines (without touching the opponent)
- Ball is ruled OUT if the ball hits the antenna
- Ball is ruled OUT if the ball hits any of the net or cables outside the antennas
Serve:
- Server is allowed to serve the ball any place behind the backline.
- If the ball hits the net on a serve, then server has one chance to serve again (otherwise it’s a point for the other team)
Players:
- There must be at least one female and one male on each team.
- Minimum of four players on each team
- If both teams have more than four players, then a max of six players can be on the court and the extra players will rotate in.
