High school student is top 10 Intel Science Talent Search winner

Xiaoyu "Carrie" Cao, a Torrey Pines High School student working in the Sailor lab since 2008, is one of the top 10 Intel Science Talent Search 2011 awardees. This tremendous distinction singles her out as one of the top high school-age scientists in the U.S. Entrants were asked to develop solutions for global challenges. Cao devised a new type of nanoscale sensor using silicon and polymers, which detects biochemicals in water and chemical toxins in the air. She met with President Obama in Washington D.C. and received a $20,000 award. Congratulations Carrie!
