NEW GAANN Program in the Chemical Sciences

In Fall 2012, the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at UC San Diego was awarded a total of $1.3 million in fellowships over a 3-year period from the U.S. Department of Education's Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GAANN) Program. (These total funds include university cost-sharing; Program PI and co-PI are Robert Continetti and Stacey Brydges, respectively). It is intended that our new GAANN program will help us to attract and retain talented graduate students, particularly those from underrepresented groups, as we prepare them to engage in innovative research and teaching careers in the chemical sciences. Nine GAANN fellowships per year will be awarded to entering and continuing doctoral-level students who meet the program eligibility criteria.
