Professor Rommie Amaro awarded new Endowed Chair Position

Professor Rommie Amaro awarded new Endowed Chair: the Distinguished Professorship in Theoretical and computational Chemistry. Professor Amaro’s computational and theoretical research work has significantly advanced our understanding of ligand protein interactions including how drugs bind at the catalytic and various allosteric sites of enzymes. Professor Amaro is PI on several grants and leads two large and important NIH funded centers at UC San Diego, namely the National Biomedical Computational Resource and the Drug Design Data Resource. As such, she has a very visible leadership role locally, nationally, and globally in the computational and theoretical fields. Prof. Amaro contributes significantly to the undergraduate teaching program in our department and is an enthusiastic and active participant in Departmental affairs serving as Vice-Chair of the Department and as the elected Chair of the Section on Biochemistry and Biophysics.
