Assistant Professor Haiwang Yong Receives 2025 DOE Office of Science ECRP Award

The 2025 U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science Early Career Research Program supports the research of outstanding scientists early in their careers. The program will fund more than 80 early-career researchers for five years at U.S. academic institutions, DOE national laboratories, and Office of Science user facilities. Prof. Yong’s funded project aims to investigate femtosecond structural dynamics of solvent–solute interactions using ultrafast X-ray and electron diffraction.

Professor Joel Yuen-Zhou Receives Joint NSF/UKRI Grant

The U.S. National Science Foundation and United Kingdom Research and Innovation (UKRI) are jointly funding eight research teams to investigate quantum information phenomena in chemical reactions and systems. Each team is comprised of U.S. and U.K. researchers who will collaboratively explore the role of quantum effects in chemistry. In total, NSF is contributing $4.7 million and UKRI’s Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council is contributing £4.2 million.

Professor Alexis Komor Receives 2026 Eli Lily Award in Biological Chemistry

The award from the American Chemical Society Division of Biochemistry and Chemical Biology is "being bestowed on Professor Komor because of her substantial and significant contributions to the genome editing and nucleic acid chemistry fields. She developed an innovative and robust solution to the product selectivity problem facing the genome editing field and thereby expanded the scope, efficiency, precision, and therapeutic relevance of genome editing for the largest class of disease-associated genetic variants: point mutations.”
